I bought this old Nyala mount from a friend. It was mounted quite a few years ago at a studio in Africa. Because it was such a nice trophy, I decided to see if I could take it apart and make it look any better.

I already had it soaking before I thought of taking pictures, but as you can see it wasn't very good. The skull plate was only foamed on, no screws at all. The skin had holes all over and none of them were sewed, just sculpted over with apoxie, and the skin was extremely greasy, what ever they tried to use for hide paste ended up like chunky honey, lol

After I had the skin completely cleaned of clay, glue, apoxie sculpt and paint

And the finished mount. Went from and upright left turn to a sneak right.

    He scores 78 3/8

When I grow up I want to be like you young man even though you are somewhere around half my age. Your talent seems limitless.

    Now that's cool.

Could you elaborate a little more on what you did with the skin to recover it and make it workable.
