I have mixed emotions on that one. Congrats to the fisherman. The fish is a beast. At the same time it is a bummer the Old Timer's number was up.. On the other hand, without catching it there is no way to actually age it and study, so there will be scientific data gained.
We have to routinely fizz fish out of 30ft &40ft water, Sometimes less. They can't deflate their bladders and return to the water without some help. That thing wasn't going to live another day even if released. So good for him, Cool Fish.

For anything it should be in a museum for scientific study. If it can live for 200 years it could hold the secret to longevity :
