Thought I'd start this thread again this year after our recent trip to Colorado. Post photos of hunts weather you harvested an animal or not.

We went 5 for 6 this year in Colorado DIY public. Shot my bull opening day. Spent the rest helpin my buddys and dad. Got my dad on a good 6x6 Monday but he missed due to some panicing of not getting him to stop and rushing the shot once he did in a tight spot. Found the nice 5x5 my buddy hit Monday,
Tuesday morning by searching, after jumping him once and losing blood on monday. Managed to save 80% of the meat by getting him cut up before the guys came with packs. He got his first mule deer also, a small 3x3. Put my other buddy on a dandy velvet mulie Thursday morning. Spot and stalk on film at 45 yards. Just under 180" gross. Was his first western hunt. Got his first elk (the small 4x4) and mule deer. Was a great trip. Had a blast again this year. This was my 11th year in 13 to Colorado. Now SD early Oct for archery mulies and WT opens in WI Saturday!! Good luck everyone!

Shot mine at 61 yards. He went 30 yards stopped and did a back flip down the hill. Not sure how he managed to land like this.

Looks like it was a fun trip! I'm headed to Idaho in a month for my first mule deer hunt.

  8. What part of Colorado were you in? 3 of us just got back from Pagosa Springs after a week in the mountains, saw a few deer but not one elk(either sex) was seen or heard.

I could tell ya but then I'd probably have to hunt you down haha. Somewhere in west central Colorado I'll give ya. We were covered upp in bulls. This spot we usually are. Between 3 of us we saw 14-20 different bulls the first day and all 3 of us were within range of atleast one bull. I was only shot that day. 2nd day my 2 buddys had about 8-11 different bulls all within range but a couple. Buddy shot the 4x4 and other missed a bull (hit a tree) and hit a good bull in the shoulder with 2 inches of penetration driving his broadhead and insert into his arrow over an inch. Never seen anything like it. 3rd day dad missed that bull and we saw another to far. Buddy shot his 5x5 and other buddy had a couple bulls come by close enough but was down to his deer tag. I had a 5x5 walk up on me while I was looking for my buddys 5x5 too I wish my dad had been with me to shoot. This was one of the better years for seeing elk but alot of small 2 yos so hopefully next year there will be a few older bulls that make it. 2 years ago I past up 11 bulls within range in this area and 8 were the first day saw 11. Saw about 25 bulls that year myself but never got a shot at any of the better ones.

Good luck can't wait to see somemore pics.

  10. I don't blame you for not giving the location, great hunt. Congratulations.

  11. I agree. A good hunter never gives away his hunting location. Looks like you had a really fun hunt here. Congrats! :)

  15. West central Colorado,,as well ! 5 day hunt and were in to bulls 4 days. Had a 300 class at 15 yds,but couldn't find a window to sneak an arrow through. This one gave us a perfect video show right in to 5 yds. No trophy,,but the meat is great! Had a very fun week...
