Charr, Dolly Varden (northern)....(Salvelinus malma malma)

  1. Here are some dolly pictures from the Holitna River, a tributary to the Kuskokwim....more toward central Alaska. These are considered the northern subspecies of dolly varden, meaning most are anadramous. On average their spotting seems to be a bit sparser than the southern strain....but what do I know.....

    Notice how large the fins are in comparison to the body size......many of the pectoral and pelvic fins have an elegant "S" curve on the back edge of their fins....Brian
