Broken Primaries Ends

Discussion in 'Beginners' started by joebrinkley, Dec 8, 2013.

  1. I have a tumbler and every time I put my birds in there they come out with some broken primaries feathers on the very ends or the tips of them, and some times the secondaries have the same thing happen. What can I do to fix this problem of the broken tips, and also how can I stop this form happening to my ducks again. Do I need to stop using the tumbler and if so what do I use then. Thanks Joe.
  2. I don't use a tumbler so i can't really help much except to say i never have broken primaries ::)

  3. Seriously though have you tried adding more sawdust, grit to your tumbler
I think I read on here somewhere that most prefer their drum a little over half full

Is it a slow tumble, or a clothes dryer that tumbles at 75 mph? Ideal is a slow 10 RPM's.
  5. It is slow, It's a real tumbler for doing duck taxidermy. I may not have a enough corn cob grit in it. It's only about 1/4 full. I will add corn cob grit to about half now. Thank you guys for the info. Joe
