    The point of this being?

  3. Very interesting. Will you be able to recreate the porous-ness of the bone?

Why does there need to be a point? This was and is a fascinating medical case. Good job!

Thanks, and yes. Once I have the digital sculpt done, it's off to the printers. Then I'll mold and rotocast it in bone-colored urethane. It will be available in different sizes, life size, and smaller.

I should be able to- I'd only want it on the surface so as not to impede the molding process.

  10. What type of printer is going to be used?

For my larger/life size prints, I go with Solid Concepts, or ZoomRP, their rapid printing division. (They did the queen alien skull for me.) I can get the skulls in one piece, with the high quality of SLA, and do the pattern finishing / moldmaking myself.

Yep. For sculpting, I use Sculptris as my go to, while I'm learning Zbrush. Sculptris is free. For hollowing out/making shells, etc. I go with Netfabb- really easy to use and one of the least expensive softwares out there. The queen and dunkleosteus skulls were done in Sculptris. The Elephant Man skull isn't quite done- a bit more detail, and then add the teeth.

Sure- it's www.mostlyfantasy.com. It's not completely up to date, as I've been lecturing on the road a lot over the past 6 months, and am getting ready for Monsterpalooza at the end of this month. Hopefully I'll get some more pics up soon.

Finally got around to finishing the file, and getting it printed. It's 1/4 scale.
