Was at the big rock show this weekend
And Vince F had one of the hottest smoking bad a$$ skin mounts I've seen
Wish I had a pic to post on here
    Did a really excellent job
It had my vote for best overall mount

Well Carl, without pics is like describing how hot a chick is w/o pics. Sorta loses a LITTLE in the translation - lol!

  3. I was there and saw it also. Very very impressive!!!!!

Carl, thank you for the kind words and it was good seeing you, same to you Travis. I still have a lot to learn and work on after Rick had a look at it. But that's the fun, trying to improve on the next one.

Yeah, not too shabby. Super nice job on those lower markings. Those are not the easiest to pull off IMO...

Vincent, that's some beautiful work, but I just HAVE to comment. Why would you expend all that talent and effort to have a bass sitting on a friggin fencepost? Put that bass in a school of herring (with one in front of that bucket mouth and one off to the side where he's looking) and set that fish in a setting it so richly deserves. I can almost smell that thing and see the slime dripping off its tail fin.

  9. That is nice

I know, ran out of time and had to put it on something. Thanks for the kind words.

The picture does not do this fish the justic it deserves
The most amazing part of this fish was the spiny dorsal
    That thing looked real

See you at the pond in may Vince

Carl, that's hard for me to imagine. ALL the fins looked that way. They were the thing that got my attention more than the paint job.

Nice clean mount conservatively painted with nice crisp lateral spots. Fins edges are awesome!

If we were to start a thread entitled "Best in Category" that would get my vote for bass.

LOL Hambone, that's rather presumptive. Vince's work is exceptional, but unless you've seen ALL the bass out there in competitions, I'd hate to say any ONE of them could best another. You need to look at some Tom Sexton, Frank Kotula, Rick Krane, Ken Bauman, Mike Kirkhart, Matt Thompson, or Cole Cruickshank's work. (I apologize to those artisans I missed in that short list.) All these guys, INCLUDING VINCE, have magic in their hands in recreating skin mounted fish. I'd hate to make a call as to the "Best in Category" with those guys playing.

I DON'T THINK THOSE GUYS WOULD BE POSTING ON THIS SITE.

Uh, have you looked? I know Cole has a tutorial on how he does them and I've seen Ken Bauman's work here along with Frank's.
