On a side note, Every taxidermist should wear gloves when fleshing or skinning bears. Both my prior Boss and a prior taxidermist got what James Marsico had and explained as a bacteria in the blood stream and both nearly died. Something about bears being on the rancid side and transferring its bacteria to a cut.

KMA mentioned alfatoxins. With the hot dry summer we had this year, as well as last, we've had to be excra careful with the livestock. Also when hauling to the elevators, they have been testing for it when probing loads, right off the bat before you even are released to go to the pit to dump. It can be deadly to livestock, but I have no ideas as far as it being secondary to humans, whom have consumed the livestock and such.

I tell you for a fact that I almost died and it was pure misery. On the second day my pastor came in and he was wearing a mask as were the nurses and doctors if they came into my room. I was barely making it. The Docs could not figure what was wrong with me at first until the tests came back. Think or believe what ever you want; my pastor gave me the sacrament of the sick (last rites) and communion and I honestly felt the power of it to my very core AND I started getting better right away after that. I had to get a "pick" in my arm and they ran that tube up my arm through my shoulder and then down right directly into my heart and I had to go back and have a IV for a hour into that pick tube every day for 10 days after I got out of the hospital. I will never touch another dead creature without gloves on. Taxidermy did almost kill me.

Bears and pigs both can carry something that can kill you. Always wear gloves when handling either species in a raw state.

Cozy Insulation Blamed For Deadly Yosemite Outbreak

Cozy foam insulation that attracted nesting mice is likely to blame for an outbreak of hantavirus that sickened at least 10 campers and killed three of them in 2012, California health officials said Wednesday.

The mice carried the virus into the tents and infected campers staying there, the new report in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases finds.








Park staff have since dismantled the “signature” cabins and rodent-proofed other facilities, according to the Yosemite Hantavirus Outbreak Investigation Team report.

The cabins “differ from regular tent cabins by having an interior wall and roof consisting of drywall with a layer of foam insulation between the drywall and exterior canvas.”

There were plenty of places for mice to get in, with "gaps between the door and threshold, gaps between the outer canvas tent and inner insulated wall, and holes in the exterior walls or floors,” the team wrote.

It was a deadly combination. Mice in dry, western areas of the U.S. often carry hantavirus, which shows up in their droppings and urine. People get infected when they breathe in dust carrying bits of the dried droppings or urine.

Hantavirus is sometimes called Sin Nombre virus – Spanish for “no-name” – because it was so mysterious when first diagnosed in 1993.

There’s no specific treatment for hantavirus infection. Patients with serious illness may need help breathing and people showing symptoms need to get to a hospital right away. Infected people are not contagious to other people.

The National Institutes of Health says symptoms at first look like flu, including chills, headache or muscle aches and fever. Symptoms progress to dry cough and shortness of breath, which can in turn lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome and kidney failure.








Yosemite did a big cleanup to kill the virus, after contacting tens of thousands of park guests who stayed in various park lodgings.

California health officials did not immediately respond to requests for interviews.

That is great news!

 

I highly doubt that this is what was wrong but the symptoms that you were describing are similar to hydrocephalus which means water on the brain. My little girl was born with this. She had a blood clot in her brain that clogged up the tube that circulates the brain and spinal cord fluid. When not working right it causes severe headaches and vomiting from the increased pressure build up from excess fluid in the brain. She has had to have several tubes put in to bypass the fluid and keep it at normal pressure. A few times when the tube went bad it would clog up causing the symptoms, then with the pressure build up it would unclog. Then clog again.
Maybe something like that happened. Only way to tell probably would to do another cat scan while you are feeling better and compare the size of your ventricles which are the chambers in your brain.
