    Hey all,

Ive been following this video (below) for my first batch of home tanned hydes. I like just using salt as I want to steer clear of chemicals but halfway through my process ( the dawn detergent degreasing stage) i lost the fur on two grey squirrels, a raccoon mask and a domestic lop eared rabbit, all the while my second rabbit came out A-OK. My only idea was that I may have had the soapy water too warm, although it cooled very fast as I did this in my basement in winter.

Can people please tell me what may have caused this on all but one pelt and also affirm that this method is credible?

    Many thanks!

    Find yourself another video.

and your process is not, cannot be "chemical free".. Everything that you touch, smell and taste are chemical related.
