I've been a student of taxidermy for 25 yrs. Mainly deer. Went to Joe Meder 15 yrs ago to put it all together. Learned a lot about anatomy and the mechanics of game heads. 2 years ago spent 2 weeks with Rick Krane to work on fish.
If you can carve a fish body, cast a head, feather in the fin unions, paint, and build a habitat to put it in, you shouldn't have any trouble with game heads.
What I like to do now is watch the videos from artists like Coombs, Carter, Dahmes, meand others and take techniques from all of them and add to what I learned with Meder. Use the best reference available, good quality form and eyes, and thin the cape well.
Ear liners work well , bondo works too, depends on what your comfortable with.
    Don't overwork on first day.
    Good luck! Have fun!
