1/2 Body Whitetail Mount

Discussion in 'Lifesize Mammals' started by DOA Taxidermy, Mar 12, 2014.

  1. I am getting ready to start my first 1/2 Body Mount on a Whitetail and I have a few questions for anyone with experience doing these.

First, sewing the front legs. Are you able to sew most of the leg before putting it on the form or do you have to wait and sew the entire leg while on the form? I started my cut incision right at the knee.
Second, what type of thread do you all recommend for sewing the legs? Best for hiding the seam?
Third, do you slot the armpits in the form for tucking excess hide or is that even necessary?

Thank you for answering and any information you can provide!!

A lot depends on the pose.. Jumping, laying, standing,

You might have to cut your legs higher, or remove a leg off the form, insert in the skin, then reattach.

Use a FireWire type fishing line for all sewing, I use 30 lb works well.

    Tucking armpits depends on pose

  3. I should have mentioned that at the beginning, sorry!

    It is a Jumping Pose.

I'd probably cut up to armpits but decide when you have the form handy and try to prefit the skin.
