coyote clay work

Discussion in 'Deer and Gameheads' started by turkeyjim, Mar 25, 2014.

  1. I don't remember who did it, maybe Cole, but a few of you coyote guys posted up some pics of their clay work. I searched for a 1/2 hour and couldn't find crap. I looked under lifesize without hides, coyote clay work, tutorial section. I don't do a bad yout, but their missing something. But anyway, some of the yotes I see on here are sweet, and when I grow up, I really want to do a really nice yote face. Any help would be great.

  6. I wish I had pics of my clay work. I got to start doing that! Are you wanting snarling or relaxed? The main thing is the eyes in my opinion. Make sure the shape matches reference and the top lid covers the top of the pupil in 90% of all cases. In most coyote forms the nose is too wide and doesn't narrow enough. It has a square look. That's great for wolves not coyotes. I think it's better for the easterns who have bigger blocky heads but still narrow and take the square out a bit. On westerns it needs much more. Lay the skull beside the form. Notice even the amount of tissue removed from the cape. I mostly clay the eyebrows, under the eyes, the nose cheek juncture and sometimes the jawline. It's important to get eyes right. Though I've done several coyotes I think hunting them has helped me more. Just seeing there actions up close when they come in makes a lot of difference.

Anyway ill try to post clay work on my next one.

Not that I'm one of the greats, I'm not by any means. I'm fairly new really. I just love coyotes and I can see simple mistakes in mounts... Even mine. I'm never happy. But having hunted them a lot I see things that are simple fixes that make huge differences.

My biggest peev not saying I can do any better but when a coyote howls it does not bite the air. Lol. It's teeth are covered if not completely its really close. It makes the ooooh sound. Reference is my best friend.

Search for a thread in the gamehead section called forms without hide or something similar. There are a couple of good coyotes, but you'll have to look through a few pages. There's also a similar thread on the lifesize section.
