Salt vs Borax?

    I have to pelts drying using the salt method. One is a hamster and one is a mouse... It's been about 4 days the the skin is not stiff yet? Should I replace the salt with a 50/50 mix of salt and borax?

    It's kinda hard I can't stretch the pelt becuase they are case skinned

    George The older I get, the better I was.

    Why would you want to do that? Salt is working just fine. Borax is only an insect repellant and not a dessicant. Salt is acting as an astringent to bring out all the moisture in the hides. Just keep them dry and leave the borax alone.

    Thank you, I'll just replace the old salt with new salt... Evreyone has been telling me to use borax and salt...

    Did you invert the skins as in flesh side out? Of not do so and won't hurt to put a fan on it if the humidity is high.
