    In many safari operations in Africa they routinely soak raw skins in a very saturated Salt brine solution also containing 2% washing soda (sodium carbonate - Na2CO3). After days of soaking they then spread them out on the dry salt and cover with same before folding and sending to their local taxi for the Dip and Pack process. So maybe the original post applies more to small animals vs Gamehead capes and larger?
