wanted to share a pic of this guy. It is by far the best skull I have ever done. Not sure why this one came out so much better than other ones in that batch.

Looking at this pic it shows a lot of shadows that look greasy but its not. I should take a better picture of this.

  3. Looks good! But now I'm wondering what was wrong with the other ones? ;)

Thanks! I don't know. It was a coyote skull but naturally cleaned". The peroxide bath hardly whitened it at all. I think I did a bear skull too. These are usually good but have never purely whitened.

Are you using 3%? Sometimes the heavier stains need something more serious. The nature cleaned ones might still have grease in them.

Also if your bear is still greasy, they can take a very long time to degrease.

I've done a bunch of bear. Most came out quite well. I have had a couple really greasy ones though.
I used hair bleach...40 volume developer...powdered white hair bleach, and water to make a bath. I should have measured this though.
I need a big trip to the dollar store...too far to travel...want to try and use standard peroxide this coming round. How much 3 percent do you add to water to make a bath in a 5 gallon bucket?

  8. I use 40 vol straight without watering it down. That's 12% peroxide. That's about as strong as I'm comfortable working with in a 5 gallon bucket (probably only about a gallon in it.)

As above. If you are soaking, do not dilute the peroxide. You can try 3% but it is very weak. Do not add anything to it. 3% is already very weak and will take a while to do the same job that hair type (12%) or pool type (27%) will do in a couple of hours. I use mostly 27% and occasionally 12% and I do not dilute them. If you are going to use 3%, you need 4 gallons of it in your 5 gallon bucket. You need to leave some room for whatever you are putting in there.

I have used 3% several time through out my experimenting. I find it works very well and you will get the results you want. However, as stated it will take much longer, though you do not need to worry much about it doing any damage.
