I use a clear lacquer in an aerosol can from Ace hardware.

Antique same for skin mounts as repros after sealing in off white over scaled areas.

Seal skin with rattle can Bullseye Shellac. Seal between colors with rattle can Krylon Triple Thick gloss. Never had a reason to antique a skin mount.

I use Super Fish Sealer, http://www.mckenziesp.com/SS90-P11288.aspx. I antique replicas, but not skin mounts. I've had trouble using gloss between coats to seal in color because sometimes I've had problems it later running or getting lacquer check when I put on my clear coat. I use 2 part automotive clear coat to finish.

Clarification: I only antique skin mounts that I have whited outdue to them drying extremely dark or a mount someone brought in to repaint vs. stripping the paint off.
