OUR BEST DAYS ARE IN OUR FUTURE

A NTA MEMBER UPDATE OCTOBER 19, 2015

When you have spent what feels like an eternity trying to repair moments of time that destroyed the view others once had of the NTA then you must ask yourself as NTA Directors can we ever change that image?

The current NTA Directors are working hard to try to set a new path for the NTA using some great business practices. Restricted Funds were a sacred trust which its possessor is bound to administer in his lifetime for the good of the membership. As you can see below the NTA Funds are not what they once were. Listed are the NTA Accounts and their balances as of October 14, 2015:

• General Fund $19,188.46

• Lifetime Member Fund $33,093.20

• Charlie Fleming Educational Fund $22,716.75

• Charlie Fleming Scholarship Fund $7,252.85

• TERF $11,291.75

When it comes to money, ignorance is NOT bliss. What you don't know CAN hurt you. NTA past culture mattered. But to try to recover what’s lost would be money wasted. The only way the NTA Directors can permanently take control of our financial problems is to dig deep and fix the root problem.

How the current NTA Directors choose to treat their membership impacts everything - for better or for worse. The NTA Directors are working well together and have taken a number of steps to move the NTA forward in a reliable and positive way. For changes to be of any true value, they've got to be lasting and consistent. The secret to moving forward is continuity, where the NTA Headquarters does not relocate with every new board. In addition, a highly qualified Independent Convention Coordinator will manage all facets of the NTA Convention with the aid of the NTA Directors and Committee members and will remain in place to ensure the perpetual success of the conventions.

Listed below are just of few things which have taken place in the last two months:

• NTA’s first woman President Michelle Burkholder
• A new NTA Headquarters Manager Tim Thacker at PO Box 384 Pocahontas IL 62275
• A new Events Coordinators Becky and Dan Snyder from Pennsylvania
• A new Accounting system merging NTA Financials and NTA Membership
• NRA Membership and benefits being offered at a reduced rate to NTA Members
• Secure Investment of NTA funds
• Revised NTA Bylaws
• Mailing out 7,000 NTA Annual Renewals
• New NTA Face book Account
• Advertising full page ads for the 2016 NTA Seven Springs Convention in Breakthrough Magazine and HQ’s Catalog
• New improvements and additions to our NTA website (http://nationaltaxidermists.com/)
• A required Annual Report for 2014/2015
• Being the voice for our industry
• ABF freight shipping discounts for mounted trophies
• Carl Akeley Old Man of Mikeno Death Mask Award donated for Taxidermist of the Year for all State Associations
• Planning 2016 NTA Convention at Seven Springs Pennsylvania and entertaining a 2017 Convention in the West

NTA Directors have struggled with a number of issues pertaining to NTA Member Benefits. Money, like emotions, is something the NTA must control. The changes are as follows:

• The NTA membership will no longer receive the AD&D Life Insurance Policy. The policy costs per member when considering Lifetime members was more than the $65 annual dues of a member. The AIG policy was only good in 22 states, and most claims were either dismissed or pro rated by the age of a member.

• Yellow Freight no longer gives the NTA any reduced shipping rates
• Reduction of the number of issues of Outlook Magazine

In closing the NTA has received a tremendous amount of negative press on Taxidermy.Net lately. If you have any questions or concerns contact me and I will give you a truthful answer or will direct you to someone that can. Taxidermists should get their information from the source with the facts before sharing it. Rumors can be lots of different opinions, based on what other people think. This is where rumors begin to build and develop into things that are harmful to all taxidermists.

We can do this with your support!

Sincerely,
Michelle Burkholder
NTA President/ NTA Board of Directors
