I've got a friend of mine who shot a small buck. He told me if i wanted more practice he would cover my supply cost and let me do the deer. So far I've only did family members for free to get practice in and I told him without a licence I didn't know if I could legally do it an charge for supplies but that I would research more into it go find out. The laws i looked up here seemed to be only illegal if you profited as a business so I'm not real sure. Does Anyone know if this is illegal in illinois to charge for supplies for practice or do I need to go buy my license first? Thanks

    Hi Mike,

Just have him order the supplies and give them to you! That way there is no connection to you and it will be a true no profit situation. Case solved.

a license for IL taxidermist is $25.00. If you are doing taxidermy for others whether charging or not I would purchase one if I were you. You can buy them online on the DNR site

That cracks me up, $25 and you're a 'licensed taxidermist'...... that's just dumb, why even have a license? Oh yeah, so the state can scam another entrepreneur out of some money.

When I lived in Illinois I knew more who did taxidermy without a license than with. It is even worse in Tennessee. There is at least ten taxidermist with fifteen miles of me that I KNOW of. Eight don't have a license and most of these are on some kind of disability or welfare.

It's $25 for the taxi lisc. but if you don't already, you'll need a res. hunting lisc too and habitat stamp. That's my understanding anyway.

    Only $15.00 in Indiana.

Should be called a permit if you ask me

Also keeps you on the law enforcement radar, and if they make the fee too high some may try to forego the license and stay off the radar.

you don't need a hunting license or habitat stamp in order to have a taxidermy license

$12.62 in Mississippi. The purpose for the permit is (1) to allow for possession limits over that of a hunting license, and (2) to give DNR immediate contact info to taxidermists in the event of an illegal harvest.
