citric acid and aluminum sulfate together in a pickle

Discussion in 'Tanning' started by tagged out taxidermy, Dec 7, 2015.

  1. Has anyone tried using citric acid and aluminum sulfate at the same time in a pickle bath in a pickle bath? I know a taxidermist Tannery that does this and I have seen his results and they look awesome. But I was wondering what peoples thoughts were and if they had any suggestions for recipes. I was thinking of doing 3:1 ratio

  5. Aluminum sulfate is a tan in itself. http://www.taxidermy.net/forums/TanningArticles/03/j/03B0BBA2E.html

    Google Aluminum sulfate hide tanning.

Matter of fact I still use it daily. I can tan flat hides, to include bear or mount the hide up. Due to gettign older and the time involved I dont do dry tanning on bears anymore. The acid is not that critical, I use oxalic acid.
