I have a hard time splitting the ears on Mule Deer. It seems that the 1 inch from the tip they dry out and it get impossible to split. From time the animal is harvested, then field caped, wrapped in bags, packed out, then froze with dry ice and finally froze after 1 1/2 days on the road. I think that they tips dry out.

Any one else have a hard time with mule deer ears?

Is there a solution to this?

    Thanks

When I get a tough one, I spray inside and out with stop rot. Then I finish fleshing the cape. By the time I'm done, the ears are well hydrated and turn easily.
