I'm using a Dakota Pro in the video, your question is one in the same to me. Hope I answered your question.

I don't know the difference in what?

There are so many different terms used for the machines I wasn't sure what you were talking about.......to some people round knives, shavers, fleshers, fleshing wheels are all the same.

Shaving machines can be characterized from a Fleshall Mini Flesher to a huge Rizzi, Turner, Mercier etc........and we can go on if you would like?

....and yes I have and can run these type machines also, but no video is available at this time.

Having trouble with cutting holes or keeping the blade sharp on your fleshing machine? Stop struggling and let D. Price and his 18 years of experience in a commercial tannery help you capitalize on this major investment that you have put into your business.

Dee, do you cover the shaving of small game in this video? I have seen some of the video, but not all.
I have been seeing some VERY BAD advice given on here lately, saying that small game like fox and coyote does not need to be shaved. That is wrong in soooo many ways!

There is no way to properly tan small game without degreasing it first. That connective tissue right next to the skins surface has to be removed, at least for the most part. Under all that tissue, it is loaded with grease that has to be removed for any tanning to take place!

Some have claimed to have "good results" without doing this, but they have done nothing but pickle the skin, and kept the hair from falling out!

  6. Aubrey...remember D skipped class the day we were going over small game...

I wonder where that isnarewolfpups went after D put the choke out on him???

  7. No...you get charged double for living in Bakersfield. ..Baahaahaa

But seriously...define messed up? If there is a ding in the edge, that would have been caught in the paper test. My guess is shipping damage. Most insurance on postal shipments carry $50 insurance.

  8. BTW...I don't work with D. But I have shipped reground blades from NY with great success. That's where my shipping damage comment comes from.

If this was directed to me, I don't grind blades or work for anyone who does grind blades. So no discount from me.

Yes and no Aubrey. I do discuss the different hair patterns but do not actually flesh/shave any small game in the Mastering The Fleshing Machine video itself. I also discuss the importance of fleshing, shaving and degreasing in my Tanning 101 video.

I remember Dave.(mid-late 80's) I was still learning small game then myself. You were the only veteran shaver of that group. Where did all the years go? I miss it more every day!

  12. If H and H did send you a regrind you are not satisfied with, call them and let them know. I'm sure they will make it right. It's not worth it to Pisa a guy off over a simple thing like a new grind that can be done in a half hour. I would call them.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this.

Dee Price will be doing a shaving and tanning seminar this coming Saturday morning, at Jim Allred's Taxidermy Supply in Saluda, NC. This will be the Annual JATS open-house. Good seminars and discounts! You have probably never seen anyone shave like this! Pig-pickin/ chicken BBQ free of course!
