A customer dropped off a deer this week that was shot in November and to my surprise there was already freezer burn. The head was frozen whole and wasn't wrapped up at all...I have done the same with personal deer and never ran into any problems with freezer burn in such a short time. Does thin hair from tick damage increase the likelihood of freezer burn? I'm wondering if this is the culprit since I have got 2 deer this year with some pretty extensive damage on the ears from ticks.

I wouldn't think tick damage would cause it to freezer burn any quicker,I could be wrong but I have dealt with freezer burned hides before and have found that spraying stop rot on it rehydrates it like it never happened

Great info!. I have never seen any freezer burn in that short amount of time....I have some stop rot sitting on my bench though.
