Haha, George, Im with you...i was kinda wondering who would question why Loews would make a profit on stuff they sell! I think thats the point.

Actually, I thought about this and now Im convinced some of you are really on to something here. I think McKenzie and others are trying to put you taxidermists out of business. See, they know youre not going to raise your prices, so theyll keep raising theirs, and youll go under. That means less taxidermists for them to do business with. So, in a few years, they also will go out of business. I gotta hand it to you guys, thats a taxidermy business plan if I ever heard one...

    Now that's funny! Lol!

But misses the point. I'm not against McKenzie, or any other company making as much profit as possible legally and honestly. When you boost your margin on the back end of a sale, it feels dishonest (you don't know you paid them extra until you've already been charged)

If I charged my customers $50 per hole to sow bullet holes, but didn't disclose that until they came to pick up their mount, they would feel ripped off, word would spread, and they would begin taking their business elsewhere. Because they have a lot of options.

The reason all mail order companies don't do exactly what McKenzie does is because they can't! When you have as much leverage as McKenzie in this space, you do what you want. But it does leave the door open...people like fair and up front pricing.

Bottom line Bill, we all know how to avoid the extra shipping costs, and buy what we can from the most cost friendly sources. That doesn't change the fact that this is a tactic to "sneak" more margin into sales through the back door rather than raising their prices so the cost is up front. Smart short term. Long term? We shall see...like you said, taxidermist business plans!

Earlier this year i placed a 9,000 dollar order with McKenzie. I realize that is more than most of you order at one time, but the lesson still rings true. My 12 percent discount not only paid for the truck freight shipping, but also put about 700 bucks back into my pocket.
Can you believe the nerve of McKenzie, giving out these huge discounts! If you are ordering one form at a time, or one pair of earliners at a time, then your gonna pay the price. learn to manage your business instead of allowing it to manage you.
    Thanks McKenzie, your the best!

Another thing that most people do not realize is that UPS charges by what they call "dimension weight". An example, I shipped a box that was 10X6X6 and weighed 1 pound. But then I printed the UPS label a note comes up on my screen that says "package shipping at 3# dimension weight. So if you take a foam manniken that is very light but requires a big box; even though the label says a few pounds the dimension weight is much higher.
also much cheaper options out there. Had a 1# package to go from Vermont to Alaska $48.00 and 9 days shipping time with UPS. USPS small package "if it fits, it ships" $5.95 and 3day delivery.

It sure is!! What? Do you expect everyone to feel sorry for you? You may not be living the life you would like to be living, but your sure as heck living the life YOU settled for. Maybe your pal Bernie will take care of you.

I'm with Bill Dishman on this one -

We ONLY place orders of $1000.00 or more and most are 2 000 / 3,000 - with eyes and other materials as part of the deal. Fairly easy to buy 1k worth of nice eyes these days. We love the discount of 12 % which is a heck of a savings and only use TRUCK service from Utah - $260 for around 16 to 18 forms - all uncut. That includes some life-size as well.

Vapid and inpertinent. I'm quite comfortable, just not with the philosophy you've promoted. Jared has it right.

  10. Companies that ship a lot with UPS get a huge discount from the published rates. I don't ship all that much but still get 40% off from what most people pay. I would imagine McKenzie is getting at least 50% or more off of published rates. So instead of passing that on to the customer, they are putting that discount in their pocket AND adding more to that and pocketing that. I think that is what everyone is upset with. It is a bit dishonest at a minimum and certainly very unethical.

This is America today: Share the wealth, give me a Safe Space, and you're ignorant if you don't accede to our demands. What a crock of crap. Taxidermy is the pissant at the picnic for big businesses. Most of our suppliers are simply performing a "customer service" to begin with and if you don't like the way they do it, then go the hell someplace else to find your supplies. Options, even in this whiney assed world are limitless. None of this was said when Walmart came in and destroyed the small dry goods retailers. None of this was said when Lowes and Home Depot destroyed the hometown hardware store. Walmart ran all the gun dealers out of business and then stopped selling guns. Yet because of the fact that some of you feel you should be treated "special" by a business that caters to supplies you need, you look for every nook and crevice to piss and moan about. I'm a sole proprietor and employee of a home based 24x24 shop. My prices are about the same as most of yours. HOWEVER, I don't pick up the phone once or twice a week to order supplies. At the end of my deer seasons here, I sit down, catalog, and list ALL the supplies I'll need to get the jobs done. On December 30, I place an order between $1000 and $3000 . That allows me to use them as a tax deduction for that tax year as well as allowing a 12% interest deduction from McKenzie. That's $120 discount and it pays for truck freight or eyes, or earliners, or foam, or whatever, but the end cost to me is $880. When I get the Africrap in in the summer, I work it the same way. I've kept a running list of what I need or what I will need ahead. I place that order later in the summer and again take advantage of the discount. If YOU aren't taking advantage of that, just glance in the mirror to see whose fault it is. Some of you guys would bitch if they put ice in your tea.

LOL.. George you remind me of a story. I was working on a hotel on the loop of VA Beach. Next door is Rudee's Restaurant. Nice seafood joint. A few of us had lunch in there all the time.

One in our bunch had the gall to dress down the waitress for too much ice in his tea......The tea was free! All you can drink, Free!
He wasn't happy unless he was [email protected] about something.

Jared, I hear ya, for sure. I certainly understand, yet I enjoy poking fun with those who cross the line of whether to question the practice or call out conspiracy. Its all good at this end, anyway. I just assume that shipping and handling means shipping costs PLUS their handling charges...

That's all fine and dandy but just about EVERY supply company gives that discount for large orders. I can drive to get 90% of my supplies and get that same discount for bulk ordering.

So it still doesn't explain gouging on shipping from one company.

Jim, you're pretty fast and loose with that word "gouging". I'm sure a lot of your customers think you're doing the same thing to them.

After 10 pages of comments, I am still calling out Bryan Russell to show us all he was overcharged......................

Here was my post from almost 3 months ago.....................

Using the FEDEX rate calculator if I enter McKenzies NC zip 21846 and guess a spot in the center of Florida (since I don't know where he lives) Lake Wales zip 33859 8x8x6 inch box 5lbs ground I get $14.92.....So $15.00.......if he lives in a rural area or needs home delivery instead of a commercial building add $3.60. maybe add a fuel surcharge ...Cha ching... If he is further south than Lake Wales add a few bucks................ Simple math....try it some time. Its all right at your fingertips. The thing that burns my azz it when people cry on here without having the facts...You state you were gouged and i was simply asking for the proof.

Can someone please document for me an actual instance where you the customer could have shipped fedex or ups for less than McKenzie charged you. ?? I received 2 large boxes Fedex from McKenzie today.
11 deer forms with ears, eyes and butts. Total shipping was $86.15 That's $7.84 per form. (a bargain) I ran the info through my fed ex rate calculator and got 102.56...............Damn those McKenzie people

Quote from AMRE2ME2 " I would imagine McKenzie is getting at least 50% or more off of published rates. So instead of passing that on to the customer, they are putting that discount in their pocket AND adding more to that and pocketing that."

Question: lets say you charge $550.00 for a deer shoulder mount which is around $92.00 in materials. (form $65.00 eyes $19.00, ears $8.00)

You make a large order and get a %12 discount which is $11.04 for that deer head. I would guess you still charge the customer $550.00

So instead of passing that on to the customer, you are putting that discount in your pocket

I think the question is ........................ if McKenzie charges you less for shipping than you could ship it for, how is that a negative ?????
