Damaged cape due to fighting

Discussion in 'Deer and Gameheads' started by Jnichols, Mar 21, 2016.

  1. I mounted a late season deer last week which had a lot of fighting injuries to the cape. Too many to patch. I remember seeing a method on how to blend the hair colors to hide some of the damaged areas but I can't find it. Any ideas/suggestions?

Looks like drag marks to me

  3. Possibly. I'd still like to minimize the damaged look of possible

I would have cut those out before mounting it.

I may be wrong but, I doubt anything you do will look good now. Your best bet would have been to fixed the biggest ones prior to mounting and then some creative grooming taxiing and grooming once mounted could have helped the rest.

Potassium peregnate (spelling) was used to blend hair color, the stuff for antler staining in a old post. You might also try some brown flank dye sprayed from airbrush. Try on back side to see if it will blend. Does look like drag marks.

You could always take some habitat rock and bring it around the front, add some grass or something to "camouflage" it. Just another option.
