Hi all, I'm putting this here in beginners since I haven't worked with any elk before. I've been wanting to mount one up for practice, and found some smaller racks at an estate sale today. I'm wondering what size cape I should be looking for that would work with either of these racks, since I don't want to end up with a gigantic cape on antlers that are too small! I know that would look silly on a whitetail, so I'm assuming it would on an elk also.

First rack, from New Mexico elk:

Second rack. I'm guessing this is a spike elk rack but could be totally wrong! It's funny looking, at any rate:

    Thanks for any recommendations!

  2. I just took one in that's slightly bigger than your first pic, I picked up a 28" cape and will be using that

25-27 will work and save you some money on spending for a larger cape, should be plenty around.
