I am thinking of getting a mold of habitat materials that is made of ABS plastic. I am planning on using either IP3030 or something similar to make the cast.

What would i use as a release here. I have used primer in the past to release from my silicone molds and also used the 2020 spray from Smooth-on to release from Bondo molds.

Trial and error is not the best way in this case because it i can't get the release the mold is ruined. thanks for any input

  2. Sorry the late response Roger... My recommendation if using IE 3030 or another urethane onto the ABS surface is to wax the surface completely first. Just like waxing your car or "Daniel Larusso Karate Kid style"---wax on wax off. Add like 3-coats to your mold surface. Once covered, use a silicone based release agent over the top. If you are painting after removal of the urethane from the ABS, make sure you wash the surface with a mild detergent first or the paint won't stick.
