Same old issue...confused more than ever

I got shipping quotes from Joe Coombs and Mckinzie for there standard shipping box that fits 5 whitetail forms. Joe Coombs $32 and Mckenzie $75, both UPS. Makes no sense! Seems like here charging you $40 for the box itself. I asked Mckenzie why there so high and they said that UPS went up. It went up everywhere and Joe Coombs was still $32. Just thought I'd throw it out there for you guys.....

 

I ship stuff. It don't cost that much and for their volume, Mck and others get even better rates. They make a huge markup on shipping no doubt. Like it or lump it. It is their prerogative to charge what they want. You choose to buy or not. That is how it works. Just pass the cost on to your customers and quit thinking you can change the way things work.

Not to resurrect an old thread, but in regards to Joe Coombs and Mckenzie having different rates, it could be based on your location. UPS using the location from start to finish, plus of course what you're shipping.

With that said, I have numerous times forgot something on an order and had to order one or two items. Last was a habitat "stick" that mounted to the back of a shoulder mount. It was a smaller one and didn't think shipping could be too bad based on weight and size. Item was $44 and they charged me $34 for shipping. After getting the box, sure enough, Mckenzie was right, it is UPS charging them for what they shipped. HOWEVER, the box was 12" taller than it needed to be, and 5" wider in either direction. Had they folded the box to the appropriate size, shipping would have been as low as $19.

 

McKenzie offers a one dollar per form off shipping when you join their shipping club however myself and many more have found the same problem with high shipping rates. I get better and faster service from Joe Coombs and better rates.

 

Same here. Almost everything I order from McKenzie comes out of the NC distribution center. HQ (which is further than MKZ), JC and Foster all get here in two days if ordered before 1pm, shipped the same day. McKenzie has never been sooner than 6 days. Though shipping took the same amount of time with the carrier. That's not on the carrier.

 

Shipping from more than one warehouse also.

 

Last year I do as always , I placed a huge order to get the 12% discount . Well they told me it was $680 to ship by ups , I told them send by truck freight, it was $165 .

 

DVd's can go "MEDIA" mail at the USPost office at a VERY LOW cost. How come they don't ship that way ?

 

However I like the McKenzie forms as well so I have got to get things figured out and maybe order most used sizes and over$1,000.00 worth at the time by truck as someone stated. Might be the best way to go for the bottom line.

 

Now that is a heck of a savings right there !

 

If you are sending documents, videos, or books, tell the USPS you want document or book rate. It's waaaaay cheaper than standard shipping.

 

I'm going to take a guess that they would have to go to the post office when UPS comes to them ? Not really sure.

You have to tell them you want it to go USPS and they will send it that way.

I doubt that they have to go to the post office. I think they can just give it to the mailman and he/she will take it for them. They probably have a postage machine (couldn't imagine a company like McKenzie not having one). If I have small items I always request USPS and it is always substantially cheaper than UPS/FedEx.

 

AMEN! You do know that McKenzie doesn't hold you hostage. I ALWAY listened carefully. If a supply had to be split (several items in Woonsocket, cast in NC, as some were stored in PA. I would tell them to ship them to PA and I'd wait as long as that took. Small items? Mail them USPS. Never order a single form. If you have an operating shop, wait until you can order $1000, get a big discount and use it to pay truck freight. Most of the guys who piss and moan about McKenzie shipping simply order and forget it until it arrives and you see the cost of shipping on the invoice. Business needs to be handled from the time you pick up the phone until you hang up. Plan on how to save costs and listen to the order clerk. She may work for McKenzie but if you do your homework, she can work for you as well.
