I'm quite new to taxidermy, attempting a soft mount on a fox cape that had already been tanned some time ago. The lips and eyes were never split and it wasn't the best tan job to begin with. My concern is what's the best way to go about getting the face fitted. Even with rehydrating, the ends of the lips are still pretty tough. Another taxidermist told me I could glue the lips/eyes onto the form since there no split to tuck, but I'm just concerned with how tough the edges of the lips are. I don't want to cut anything away, maybe try to Dremel them down to thin them out. Any suggestions would be great!

Try sweating the skin in a bag overnight to see if it helps any...

Then split the lips and eyes and thin the skin down as much as possible, I also remove the the whiskers so I thin down the whisker butts aswell! The thicker the skin the more shrinkage you will have.
