I am having problems degreasing trout skins properly ,the trout im working on live under salmon pens and eat the pellets the salmon are feed ,the trout are extremely oily , what is a safe degreaser that wont shrink or weaken the skin, preferably something I may be able to get at my local hardware store ,without importing to new Zealand at ridiculous cost, also im interested after the fish is dry and before I seal it what is a safe product to wipe the mount down with to further degrease without fear of scales lifting ect , thanks

I soak all my trout skins in Denatured Alcohol at least overnight. That pulls the oil right out of them. Of course you'll have to re-hydrate the skin until soft for mounting. (No big deal). Wipe the mounted skin with the same product....and it should be available at the hardware store. Good luck. JL
