Do you skin right up against the pads when you are doing a life size bear? Can you sew through the pads when you put the bear back together? What's the best way to do this? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Yes, you can sew through the pad's if necessary, all depends on how the bear is skinned. Some Bear's are skinned around the pad also. If sewing through the pad you will need to finish with apoxie sculpt and paint.

I cut right through the pad and then across the pad before the base of the toes. T cut. It is a lot easier to skin the foot. With a good blade and shears I can skin a foot in about 5 minutes. It doesn't take long to stitch it back upeither because you can take large stitches. The pad is rebuilt and textured afterward anyway or should be if you know what you're doing.

    Oneshot,

If you haven't skinned out the pads yet, trying doing one, one way, and the other, another way. Skin one right through the pad on one foot and skin another by starting just ahead of the pad then continue cutting the skin without cutting the fur around the the pad. Then you have two more to decide which way you like best. Each way has it's own advantages and disadvantages, while skinning, and finishing.

  6. Great advice Wayne. The position/pose of the mount has a lot do do with the way I skin out the pads.
