I have a deer hide a customer wants tanned as a throw or rug. I have used krotan a few times in the past on small game and I know a lot of people use it on deer, but I was wondering for the dry tan finish on a rug would you just krotan it then let it dry? Is there additional products or stretching I would need to consider? Thanks for the help

I don't know about Krowtan. In your situation, I always had them commercially tanned, however, I believe you would have to break the hide as it dried. I used to break them by running them over a clean shovel head that was secured in a vise.

  3. I would send it to Specialty Leather in Boone, Iowa. Great soft tan there.

Here's what to try , Kro-tan the hide and then rub on tru-bond 100b, As it dries start stretching it and you'll end up with a pretty decent soft hide
  5. Sounds like good advice Frank.
