So I picked up a used Silentaire 20A for $220.....I know Crazy!!!! Been looking for a long time on craiglist....I can't believe how quiet the thing is!!! So I want to change the oil....I checked on line and the brand recommended by the company is super expensive...$50 shipped to the house for 24oz....can I use another brand I can buy locally????

Maybe it is just me, but I see some of these units that look like a much cheaper Chinese unit with a metal cover. Not sure what the cover is for except to hide the truth.

Try Harbor Freight.......i bet what they sell is th same thing without the fancy carrying case. A ver nice, quiet, powerful compressor that is my baby is from California Air. 6.3 gallon tank, 1 hp.........never even drained it in 3 years. Flawless. Try Bear Air........TCP Global........Chicago Airbrush.

You will enjoy it.........powerful enough to operate power tools as well..........and plenty quiet.

  3. It could be some special oil. you go cheap and you may be replacing the unit.

I purchased a California Air. 12 gallon tank, 2 hp. on sale at Menards this winter for $169, Quiet 74 Decib, unit. Maybe a bit over kill for painting but I was also thinking of using air tools for fleshing hides, air sanders and grinders. Plus looking to move painting into the same room as the compressor, I will not need to have ear plugs and the ear muffs as with the old compressor.. I can talk with my wife in the same area with new compressor running.
