I'm taking up fish carving and am starting from scratch with equipment and supplies. I'm looking for Mastercarver and/or Burnmaster equipment, carving/grinding tips, quality how-to videos, basswood or other carvable wood, etc. If your carving stuff is just sitting around catching dust I'd enjoy putting it to use! Thanks!

  3. There are any number of woodcarving shops or stores, however, the most popular one for carving appears to be http://www.thewoodcraftshop.com/ which is located in Bettendorf, Iowa. They are an old time business and have almost every conceivable piece of equipment, book, that a wood carver could want. Call or email them and they are quick to respond, and their postage rates are, actual rate, plus $1.00 so very reasonable. Take a look at their web site and then decide for yourself. As far as being reliable I can personally vouch for them. I have been their customer for years and only shop there. Good luck with the fish carving and whatever carving you might head into. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm on a tight budget so if possible would like to buy good-used equipment. Similar to taxidermy equipment...it all seems to add up!

As a side-note, I've been trying to find larger sized basswood or other carving wood for the larger sized fish I would like to carve. I just purchased some larger blocks from Itasca Wood Products. They had a lot larger blocks at a fraction of the cost of other places I looked.

If anyone has any carving, grinding, or tip burning tools available...please let me know! Thanks again for the suggestions!

I'm still looking for wood carving supplies. Especially grinding and wood burning tools. Does anyone have a Woodmaster Eagle or Hawk with tips or Foredom or Mastercarver that's been sitting around? Thanks!

I use a Foredom for carving and a Colwood Super Pro II for burning. Pat Kennedy made fish and snake scale tips that fir the Colwood burners.
