I am just starting out in taxidermy and a guy brought me a wood duck that has part of the beak shot off. He wants to keep the beak that's on it instead of removing it. This will be my first duck so he says it doesn't matter if i mess up or not he is helping me out by giving me something to practice on. So my question is how do I remove the skull and keep the beat that's on it?

I’m not sure if the head will go through the neck skin or not so you may have to make a relief cut. Either on the back of the head or underneath in the throat/head juncture

Or you could skin the head as if you were going to use an artificial head but clean and rebuild the skull, paint the bill (assuming you give the bill time to dry completely) and insert it back into the head skin and super glue on.

Just a thought as an alternative............jerry
