what is freeze drying

    What exactly is freeze drying? I also heard of flash freezing, are they both the same thing. they sound like the same thing.

    Flash freeze is a process used in the food industry. Freeze dry is a process that removes all the moisture from something. Much like cup of noodles and freeze dried food for backpackers. Just add water and you have a meal. It's used to preserve flowers, papers, and animals and parts there of.

    It is exactly lyophilization. Specimens are frozen and placed in a vacuum chamber. At lower pressures water goes directly from the solid to the gaseous phase.
