    May I ask why you say that? I’ve read on here that others dread late season fat mallards as well. Is that just because of the extra fat to be removed?

    No sir. For me a fat bird wheels, washes and mounts better. I hate them cause the skin is so tender around the butt. And they're so big. Plus with them being so big they tear easier when washing. I don't think I've ever done one that I didn't have to do a bunch of sewing.

    Thanks Tom. It's going to go on a fancy McKenzie base. Swimming above some reeds. I'll definitely post pics. I hope I get it stuck on the spikes without mauling it.

    Tom, I just use clay. If I'm going to open the feet up I'll put clay on the feet to mold them how I want after I inject. I'll leave the clay on until I do finish work. It'll just pop off. Then I'll take a wet rag and wipe off the clay residue before I paint.

    I just use tape on closed feet.

    Added a hen and another drake to the mix. One more drake to go (where the mannikin is)and to put the leather strap on and call it good. I'll get a better picture when it's done.

    Young man's 2nd bird.

    See what a picture can do for you. I posted this and looked at the picture and immediately went back out and adjusted the head and neck position
