I would like to enter my first Taxidermy Competition. I have a Ring Neck drake that i'm mounting right now. I have always ordered a Pre- Painted head to use. I was wondering if that is allowed in a Novice Division? Or do I have to order a non painted head and paint the bill myself?

    Thank you

You could probably get by with it, but why not try painting one yourself? One nice thing about artificial heads is that if you don’t like what you see, just clean it off and start over. Good practice too.

Most of the pre painted heads i've seen need to be repainted anyways.

Paint it yourself. You need to be judged on all parts of the mount. Also do a sitting resting pose. The more areas you open up ie the wings the more your judged on. Ask a lot of questions and of coarse leave your ego at the door. You'll never have a greater learning experience than this if you use your time with the judge during your critique. Best of luck
