Capes floating in the pickle

    I made up a big pickle yesterday and put a few capes in. Two were rehydrated in a salt brine and were staying under the water no worries, but now I've put everything into the pickle they're all floating to the top and out of the water. Only thing I can think is that there's too much salt in there. Any ideas?

    There's no harm in them floating ,just stir them up a couple times a day.

    Deer hair is hollow and likes to float. I have never had a deer cape not float.

    It's a normal process for this to happen as stated above, hollow hair means floating skins. Let them float and don't do anything to weigh them down. The acid will work perfectly fine and you cape will pickle. All you need to so is when you come in your shop in the morning. stir them and then when you leave stir them again. In three days your ready to shave the capes.

    Thanks very much fellas. I've been stiring them once or twice a day and everything else seems fine.

    Stirring will take care of business and you could weigh them down if the floating bothers you. Use an old water bottle from the coolers you get water from, half way full.

    silver wings never weigh them down , the pickle will not flow through skins touching each other. You will have to remove the weights mix and redo the weights, wasted time and energy. I thought I taught you better!!
