I am mounting a lifesize otter. It is good idea to wash the hide with dish soap or lysol to remove some of the grease? What do you guys do out there??

I am only a part time taxidermist, this is for my own display, I am going to Dry Preserve the hide.

any ideas or help would be great, thanks. Craig

That sucker needs to be degreased, dish soap won't cut it, in my opinion. I won't get into the tan v dp debate, I tan all mammals but, you need to degrease that with a degreaser designed for it, to get the best results.

Trapper2016 Thanks for this awesome forum!

For the one that i mounted i used 3 different things. I washed him in dawn dish soap well. Then i used EPO Blood out and degreaser, and then put it into Kemsol degreaser. When it came out and was washed up there was no more grease. It may have been overkill but it got all the grease out and mounted up nice. Hope this helps
