Who are the best people to learn fish casting from

    in the industry that would offer a course? I think I know, but would like to hear from some of you. Would prefer one on one. I do some casting of heads and fins but it's not state of the art anymore. I know there have been some advances on technique and material since I've learned.

    Hi Cecil, I have talked to Terry Weick, who is not too far from us in Michigan, about the same thing. He is very well qualified with the newer materials and technology. He is hoping to do a small course at his shop sometime later this spring or summer. Get in touch with him and maybe we can get enough interest for him to schedule it.

    I'm IN, whenever someone could fit me in for a class. Or even a really good DVD. I could learn from that, if it was a well produced (video quality) DVD. I have the actual fish (all sizes) available....just need the know-how. I'm going broke buying from the various suppliers out there. And even so, their molds are obviously beginning to show their age. If I could do my own, it would be a win-win in my eyes.

    Does anybody still make molds out of plaster? Using dental plaster (I can get 100 pound bags for about $28.00 here) I'm amazed at the detail I get when doing the half cast method of mounting fish. And I'm not even trying very hard!

    Paul Borkowski put on a seminar at the Michigan Competition quite a few years ago so I know he can do it and maybe for hire.

    Thank you for all the suggestions. All excellent choices. Going with Rick Krane in NH. Was going out there for vacation anyway, so I will be able to write off at least some of the vaca on my taxes! I used to live in that part of the country as a kid and always enjoy going back. And of course the fishing and scenery is outstanding out there.

    And I'm hoping to meet JL and see Richard Christoforo!

    I'll be bringing my boat this time!

    Check with your CPA Cecil! I understand from what my CPA says that with the new tax laws that there's some business expenses going away (meals for instance). And, a lot of this stuff is still on the table and evolving. I doubt that matters much from your viewpoint as you're heading out that way anyway. But, you may want to back off on the steak and lobster til you know for certain - lol!

    back off on the steak and lobster, What taxidermist makes that type of money? I was thinking kids meals at burger flopper or a slider and onion chips. :):D

    One year I was in Mass they sold lobster rolls at McDonalds. Don't know if they do anymore. There is a small chain of restaurants know as the Weathervane out there where the seafood is a fresh as it gets, not expensive, and they pile it high on your plate. Unfortunately the one in the area I will be at has closed (Leominster, MA).

    BTW Marty don't have a CPA. The wife does the taxes. Hired one when I first got into the business and didn't like the fact that I had to do all the work and he just looked it over for several hundred dollars. And to top it off if he made mistake it was on me.
