Sandhill Crane neck wire size?

    What guage wire is sufficient to hold up the ridiculous long neck on these things?

    I used a 12 gauge and it didn't work. When I do it again, I am using a 10 or larger.

    I use 9ga in the main part of the neck and 12ga in the windpipe. That combination will hold it pretty well. Pose the neck and lightly tie or glue the 2 parts together before you add the skin, because it will be very hard to raise or lower it. You will still be able to turn the head, though.
