Cleaning out a turtle Shell

Discussion in 'Reptile Taxidermy' started by WackyBonesTaxidermy, Jun 6, 2018.

  1. What is the correct way to clean out a turtle shell? How to get the body out, ect… I do have beetles but never tried putting a turtle shell in with them.

  3. What i do is take a scalpel and pliers and cut around all the legs and pulling it all comes out eventually , its not the prettiest thing to gut out , then i put it in my beetle tank for a day or two , dont keep in in too long bec the beetles will eat the peticles and damage the shell

George The older I get, the better I was.

Pressure washer is faster without the purifying smell.
  5. I would steer clear of boiling the shell. It can shrink on you bad, as well as start "shelling-out" if it is left in the boiling water too long. Trust me it isn't pretty when it does that!
