Taxidermist Lost Antlers..What should I do?

I think I've expressed my opinions on this subject years ago in a previous thread! Nope, I don't know of anyone that has ever lost or damaged a customer's mount. But, then again (if they did) they probably would keep that to themselves - lol!

 

Maintaining freezer alarms is a full time job within itself. I have 12-15 freezers in 5 locations. There is always an alarm with dead batteries, or not communicating with the main control.

 

In my case the insurance company paid for close to 100% of the loss. They treated me good. I informed my clients and there was no angry feedback. Everyone knew what happened and I purchased new capes foe each client, repaired what I could and all went well.

As for Freezer alarms. Yes I did have one but the battery was dead. I now change the batteries and each freezer has 2 freezer alarms in the event of a failure. Freezer alarms are cheap.

 

(170 is nice but a no big deal rack)
Maybe to you, what do you have a pile of them?​

 

I have tested my contract in court and it held up fine.

A guy brought me antlers for a shoulder mount during the summer. He did not have a cape. I told him it would likely not get completed until winter. A couple months later and he changed his mind and came to pick it up and wanted his deposit back, which my wife declined to do due as per the contract. He sued me in small claims court. I showed the judge the contract. The judge asked the plaintive if that was his signature at the bottom, to which he said "yes". The judge ruled in my favor and also awarded some money from my counter claim since I had ordered a form and bought him a cape, which I brought to court and gave him. Case closed.

I just lost 100 lbs. of meat because breaker tripped and one of my 4 freezers went out. Luckily--or not--it was the freezer with all my wild game in it so no customers' hides were in it. All my freezers have alarms and this one actually had two. During my recent move, the batteries became loose and neither alarm went off. Freezer alarms are great, but not infallable.

 

You probably had the older, more square alarms. I have one of these and one of the newer long, skinny vertical ones. I noticed the square ones had a sketchy battery door that didn't close very well right after I bought it and I taped the door closed so the batteries could not come loose. Made in China crap probably initially stolen from the U.S. then cheapened - loll! Certainly, nothing is fool-proof, but for something SO important a little redundancy and TWO $15 dollar battery operated freezer alarms ain't a bad idea. (And check that the batteries are seated properly and test regularly eh ? lol!) A small price to pay for probably catching a freezer gone. At least you tried BH! I think the people w/o battery operated freezer alarms are the same folks that NEVER back-up their files on their computers either - lol! Some like to live on the edge I guess

Same thing. They all have probes. And make sure you place the probe on top. Some folks will place it lower, near the bottom and that would be the last place to thaw out if your freezer went..

 

i think i read this on this site. when you go on vacation and want to know if the power went out and your freezer thawed, then the power came on and refroze everything before you got home.

you can freeze water in a plastic dixie cup or anything, but place a penny on top of the frozen water and leave it in the freezer. when you get home from vacation check the cup...if the penny is still on top, the stuff in the freezer is still good.

it wont help with customer specimens but it will tell you if your food is still good.

 

What's a "vacation" I just had a neighbor check my freezers every time they came over to take care of my dog when we were on vacation...

 

Or just put some ice cubes in a zip lock. If they are still cubes when you get back you are golden.

 

Or don't ever go anywhere and check your freezers twice a day, Holy Hanah, I check my business freezers daily and personal freezers at least once a week. I can't/won't spend my life worrying about a damn freezer stopping and starting while, I'm gone.
