Hooded Merganser Head, Where Do You Cut

    can you cut them at the bill and peel back like you would a duck, or do you make a relief cut on the head?

    The last one I did and is been a year or so I think it's head will pull out though the neck if I remember right one of the few ducks that will do that

    Yes you can invert the head without detaching it. I cut mine at the bill and remove the head completely. Than use an artificial replacement head. I have one thawing out right now.

    It’s so easy to use the real skull on them I rarely use an artificial head. Just invert the head through the neck, clean the skull, and mount.
