What's the trick? These just came in from Africa. Cant get them off..
I’ve had a few waterbuck which were on to stay. Impala horns will not come off as a rule, but Kudu horn cores extend all the way out making it near impossible unless the entire set is submerged in hot water long enough to soften tissues. Small drilled holes over the horn’s length will facilitate this. In Africa boiling entire horn is usually needed to loosen before using a rubber mallet.
So they get mounted as they are?
I’ve had to mount Waterbuck and others without getting sheaths off with no problems. I’ve drilled holes and injected bug poison, let dry then apoxie sculpt them. Never had to do kudu horns though.
