Absolutely ridiculous. To hint at the average guy that mounting a deer lifesize is a DIY project is crazy! Next week, maybe he'll have an article on DIY root canals!

No worries. There's plenty to go around at every level. Some people need cheap work. Some don't care about quality. A few want the best no matter what the cost. Do what you want to.
  5. The horn mount looks real good!!

In the article, Josh Honeycutt is from Kentucky,
His suggested Full Body Mount 1500-3000 range
    suggested shoulder mount -400-500 range

These are the prices listed I saw on the Taxidermy.net links for Kentucky taxidermists.
The life-size was correct in range, and some shoulder mounts are in his listed range.

    Dowdy's Taxidermy & Deer Processing
    Life-size deer $2300, shoulder $425

    Gunner’s taxidermy
    Lifes-ize $2750, shoulder $595

    Lizers taxidermy
    Life-size $1950, Shoulder $425

    Nesbit taxidermy
    Life-size $2600, $Shoulder 450

    Noem’s Wildlife artistry
    Life-size $2900, Shoulder $650

And Dowdy listed European at $175 and Horns 135

if those are HORNS and not Antlers it should be higher. lots more work involved.
if those are Antlers and not horns then Dowdy needs to go back to school to learn the difference.
  13. In my part of alabama, they're horns.

Here in Oregon, We put shells in the magazine and kill the bucks with the biggest horns and count the points on one side only. The side with the most points and never count the eye guards. We can be rebellious way up and over here too.
