Requesting The Best Method Of Removing Mold From Mounted Bird Legs/feet

Discussion in 'Bird Taxidermy' started by mw, Oct 17, 2019.

  1. I am simply requesting information as to what is the best method/material for removing mold from mounted bird legs and feet, without harming the paint on the legs. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much! Michael

It's probably going to remove the paint no matter what, but you could start with a 10% bleach/water solution. I would spray it on and let it dry a couple times. If you rub the legs/feet it will probably pop the paint off especially if the mounts were moist enough to have mold growing on them.

Rubbing alcohol might not be as invasive as bleach. Spray it on, and don't touch. Let dry and reapply til the mold is dead. Blow off with an aerosol compressed air, and maybe, just maybe, your paint will still be there.
