Looking to have a whitetail rack replicated and painted. Looks like its not going to be cheap so looking for recommendations for who to use. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I was wondering what is your situation for needing a reproduction?

You might check out antlers by Klaus. He won't be cheap but I bet they will look amazing.

Just had a great memorable hunt with a friend. We've been after this particular buck for several years. Was a group effort to finally get him killed and we were both doing to put him on the wall. I did look into Klaus and his work does look amazing. The buck is only 135" but has tons of mass with 6.5" bases. Love to have a replica but can't justify $1800.

$1,800 actually sounds like a bargain. I'd charge more.

I wish I could help you with the replica. Sounds like a knarley old buck. If you end up finding someone to do the replica I would be more than happy to color them for the price of shipping. You could also possibly save some cash and color them yourself?

I found a winter kill buck I colored last winter that was bleached white. It took me off and on a couple weeks to add layer after layer but they turned out super nice! I would make sure who ever colors them uses several colors to bring them to life. It takes a little more time to do correctly. If you decide to do them yourself send me a pm and I would be glad to give you some tips. Good luck!

Check with Ben Jones at Replicaracks.com to see what his price is. I just bought a 185" rack from him and it was great.

$1800 is pretty reasonable for top quality replication work. There's a good bit of time involved in that stuff.
My buddy killed a 148" 8 pt in Iowa about 10 years ago and the rack was stolen from the taxidermist. He was quoted close to 4 grand for a custom built replica rack on a shoulder mount. And that quote was around 8 years ago!

Yes having a set made from a picture is going to cost a hell of a lot more than making a decent replica from the original antlers. I'm sure there are plenty out there that can do this for you but Ben Jones gets many referrals so he must do pretty good work.

John Dittmer @ Springhill taxidermy done replicas of Mark Drury's 217" buck "Danger" and I'd be willing to bet he's the best in the business, hands down.
And yes 3bears it is more expensive to replicate from photos but this hunt was on video, trail cam and hero shots plus an official score sheet so it's not like a huge guessing game.

Another option that would be super cheap would be to find a set of antlers that are close to the size of your buck on eBay or this (or other) classified sections. It would be exactly the same but may be pretty close? I've done this many times for fish that I've released. Found replicas with similar measurements and painted them.

I just looked on eBay and there is a huge selection of whitetail sheds, reproductions, and skull-plated antlers for $15 to $300. WAY cheaper going this route if it doesn't matter if the rack is not your original? Just thought I would toss this out there!
