When splitting behind the leg should I stop at the pad and invert or should I split the pad then invert? Any help is appreciated.

quicker to cut through the pad , easy enough to rebuild them with sculptall when finishing

I cut all the way through the pad, makes it easier to flesh the toes and when you get ready to mount you don't have to fight to get the wire/bolt through the foot before you sew.. I use potter's clay to rebuild the foot pads and toes.

  4. I also cut through the pad to make room for the wire and facilitate fleshing of toe pads. The pads will sew up nicely when you're done

Same as bear for me , I cut to the inside of foot around pad then between pad and toes , leaving a little hair to pad . So it’s now like s flap , Easy to get toes out and to stitch back up and you can’t see stitches and don’t have to repair pad when foot is exsposed .
