What can I use to seal and finish a mache rock base over foam so it will not chip and flake when I deliver it to the client? It's for a black bear and when we put the bear on the base the claws chipped the mache....

If it’s chipping or flaking off your your foam that’s telling me your mache is no adhering to it. I like to rough up the foam real good, mix some glue, dextrin or a good caulking with the mache to make sure it binds with the foam.

Color your mix with dry powder pigments. You will not notice any chipping because the mixture will not be white. I am assuming you are talking about the thin edges that chip because of handling
